How to block a number on Android
A step-by-step guide to blocking an annoying or suspicious number on an Android phone — from the Phone app and from settings.
Blocking from the call log
Open the Phone app → the "Recents" tab (call log), find the number, tap and hold it or open its card via the "i" icon next to it, then choose "Block number" (on some builds: "Block / report spam").
Blocking from Contacts
If the number is saved as a contact, open its card in the Contacts app, tap the menu (three dots) in the top-right corner, and choose "Block." After that, calls and texts from that number won't reach you.
The blocked numbers list
It's easier to manage all blocked numbers in one place: open Phone → menu → Settings → "Blocked numbers" (on some Samsung devices: "Block calls and messages"). You can also add a number manually there, even one that hasn't called you yet.
Good to know
- Exact menu wording differs between Samsung, Xiaomi, Pixel and other manufacturers, but the logic is the same
- A blocked number can't reach you by call or SMS, and it won't be notified about the block
- The Google Phone app can automatically flag likely spam — turn that on in settings
- Check the number on KtoTam.to before blocking, to make sure it's not an important contact
